What if you could live your life over again?

What if you could live your life over again? In this text-based interactive fiction, you choose what happens next. Its in the style of pick-a-path gamebooks, but with over a thousand multiple-choice questions, its much longer and deeper than traditional gamebooks. Alter Ego starts at birth and ends at death, including two substantially different versions, depending on whether you choose to be male or female. Will you grow up to be confident and happy? Will you fight with bullies, or befriend them? Will you find a date to the senior prom? Will you marry and have kids, or start your own business and become a millionaire? The choice is yours. This game will change your life.(Alter Ego was originally published in 1986 for the Commodore 64, MS-DOS, Apple II, and Macintosh. The current edition of the Alter Ego game is a production of Choose Multiple LLC. This edition includes an updated interface and fixes bugs in the original version of the game, but the content of the game hasnt changed from the original 1986 version of the game.)Fixed errors during marriage.

This is a delightful game. However, I understand why some would describe it as " problematic" but I respect the decision to leave everything in.

An exceptional experience. The place among 1001 Games You Must Play Before You Die is well deserved. Thank you for porting this gem to a modern device.

It was alright for its time, and updating it is a worthwhile addition, but $5 is definitely steep. People who criticize it for not being inclusive or progressive enough are forgetting that this game was made in 1986, and this is just modernizing the interface. A remaster or a spiritual successor to this game would be a godsend, but as a standalone product, this is mediocre.

It's one of the best life simulator I've played... but can you guys add like a way to customize a character for yourself and gay and lesbian lovers

Crashes on start and no way to get a refund. Broken app, don't waste your money.

Connor Stern

I just love all the choices I could make and it's as if I'm living someone else's life

Dj Shanz

Its a good game however with a few updates it could be even better.

It's pretty good, to be honest. I hate all the people asking for LGBT options. This was made in 1980s! Lgbt wasn't accepted back then and wasn't understood properly, they didn't wanna change anything when adapting this very old game, and sure it's a bit repetitive, but it's meant to be played like once or twice. It says what it is in the description, a text game, so don't complain.

I don't think some of the reviews are being fair to this game. Before purchase it is made clear that aside from being adapted into ChoiceScript, the content remains unchanged from the original release in 1986. I'm not sure why they are asking for a more modern/progressive take. As for how the stats work, it should be noted that the quiz does have an effect, but prior to that, some stats are randomized from 20 to 80 to simulate random aptitudes. My only issue is that it needs a CS engine update.
